[ Tellanna Liench | Main Thoroughfare | Deck 60 | Augustus Station] attn: Triage , guinuspiggus , drei
The day was well underway and the lights of the Main Thoroughfare of the station were set to their full daytime illumination. This was measured at a level of brightness similar to that of Earth near the equator during a similar hour. Yet to the eyes of Tellanna it was still quite bright.
"I think I would have preferred some form of eye protection," she said to the man who approached her from behind.
"Best to not wear sunglasses when not required. Humans did evolve to cope with such levels of brightness, you shall adapt to it as well," the man said. "Besides, it is best to be inconspicuous."
Tellanna looked at the man and raised an eyebrow. He was dressed in a white suit and held in his hand a black cane. He could not have been inconspicuous if he tried and he seemed to be trying to be just the opposite. "Coming from you that seems near meaningless," she said glaring at him.
"The goal is for you to not stand out, I am allowed to stand out as much as I like," the man said with a smirk.
"Your goal is for me to not stand out, my goal is to get more answers, which you've promised me are here," Tellanna replied sounding frustrated.
"You have been through a great deal and your answers will soon become clear to you and yes, this is the place to find them. You have read the book as it should be now and you know what it means," the man said softly, inclining his head toward her.
"Yes, it means there have been enough lies," she replied through gritted teeth.
"Exactly. So I won't lie to you. You can take me not telling you everything as a sign that what I have told you is purely the truth," the man said as he lightly stroked his beard, sounding pleased with himself.
"And I am to wait for these answers then?" she asked angrily.
"No, you will be busy with a number of other activities. For now, you will take up a job in the Tavern, I do believe once the crew establishes themselves here it will give you ample opportunity to observe them and to learn what you need to know," he replied and gestured to one of the storefronts, one that had for some reason been given a wooden old west facade. "My organization will keep in touch and you know how to get ahold of us. Do not cause trouble and do not speak of matters that do not concern others, yes?"
"I know how to hold my tongue," she replied.
"Good girl," the man said and lightly patted her cheek. "Now I have other matters to attend to. The Bull and the Ewe are already here and I must make my presence known."
The man inclined his head slightly and turning made his way down the Main Thoroughfare.
Tellanna sighed and made her way to the tavern. She paused outside it and looked up at the sign hanging above the door, "The Cat's Fiddle". With a final glance around she grabbed the handle of the heavy wooden door and pulling it open stepped inside.
The inside of the tavern was thankfully less bright. Glancing around the inside Tellanna spotted someone along a long wooden bar and walked over. The someone was of medium height, female, well figured in breasts and hips, but it was her skin that stood out. She had bright white skin flecked with patches and spots of deep blueish purple.
"Welcome to The Cat's Fiddle," the female behind the bar said as her golden eyes fell upon Tellanna. "I take it you're Tellanna, my new waitress."
"That would be correct," Tellanna said, perhaps a bit too rigidly. She found herself nervous. The woman's eyes seemed to be able to peer right through her.
"First job out here?" the woman asked with a smile.
"Pardon?" Tellanna asked somewhat confused.
"You seem nervous as hell, relax sweety, you've already got the job. We're already open so you can start your first shift now if you want, Tyler can show you the ropes," the female gestured to a well fit tanned skin man who was in a server's uniform. "We should have a uniform in just your size in the back."
"How do you know my size?" Tellanna asked, this was not going how she had expected.
"Believe me, sweetie, see one girl your type, see 'em all," the female said with a toothy grin. "I'm Che'Rrey, by the way. Che'Rrey Pai."
Tellanna could only nod and go over to the man called Tyler who in turn led her to the back and a clean uniform.
The gaze of Miss Che'Rrey Pai shifted from the nice behind of her new employee to the door as it swung open and the man himself walked in.
"Captain Locke, what an expected surprise," she said with a toothy smirk.
"If it's expected then it isn't a surprise," Roland said as he made his way over to the bar and set down a data pad. "Just saw your recent import request form."
"Did you now?"
"Yes, I did," Roland said, he very clearly knew Che'Rrey was full of crap and was taking none of it. "And the answer to the majority of these items is no. And I think you know that."
"And?"
"And why do you keep sending me these stupid forms asking to import things you know darn well are illegal in the Union? You aren't allowed to traffic in drugs, firearms, or other substances like that. You know that. I know that. So why am I here again?" Roland asked.
"Because you like my face?" Che'Rrey replied happily.
Captain Locke rolled his eyes. "You can import things from the list we've already been over. If it's not on the list then check the trade commission report. If it's banned by them then you can't have it. If it's not then you sent me an import request. How hard is this to understand?" Roland asked sounding more exasperated than anything else.
"But then you'd never come down to visit," Che'Rrey said with a fake pout.
"And you prefer me coming down here when I'm pissed at you?"
"Well, I do like my men a little forceful." Again with that toothy smile. She was well and truly incorrigible.
"I have work to do," Roland said and stormed out of the tavern.
"I hate to see him leave, but I love to watch him go," Che'Rrey commented to herself as she gazed at his uniform-clad behind as he left the tavern.
Once out on the Main Thoroughfare Captain Locke sighed and adjusted his uniform slightly glancing around to check to see everything was okay.
