[ Oto Syrano | Hallway | Deck 02 | Augustus Station ] Triage Every morning since his arrival, Syrano made it a point to walk. Whether he walked all of Deck 02 or he just took a few steps in the storage room outside his tank, he walked. It wasn’t that he enjoyed it—truthfully, it could be agonizing some days. His bones were not made to support his body on land, in gravity this heavy, and his muscles were atrophied compared to the strong, sturdy land-dwellers. That was exactly why he walked though. In a world where most of the station was above-water, he had to. So he walked. He’d had his morning drink to dull out the pain from his joints, but the smell of saltwater overpowered any lingering alcohol scent. His walking stick made quiet thumping noises, his skirts made not-so-quiet wet noises as they remained over his legs and behind his body. The knee on his bad leg stung, but he kept his pain to himself. The only indication was his tight grip on his stick. Syrano, for as fragile as he was, was a large creature. He was over seven feet tall and his skirts, when widened, would take up most of the hallway. He was an imposing presence for those who rarely saw him. He smiled at and nodded to the faces walking past, regardless of whether they knew him. Though there were ‘good morning’s and ‘hello’s, most kept quiet. It was all well with him. He didn’t feel in the mood to speak to even his regular conversational partners. Pain had a way of making him crabby. So he turned a corner and was quite thrilled to find the hallway he was in now devoid of other people. His skirts flared out, achey from being curled up so tight. He left a path of dampness where he walked, normally it annoyed maintenance, but here no one was here to blame him. Blissful peace...

[ Dr. Saranya Davenport | Hallway | Deck 02 | Augustus Station] Attn: guinuspiggus
The one advantage of the station was its enormity. She didn't need to reserve time on the Holodeck or opt for running in circles on a medium-sized cruiser. Her Drazalyte physiology meant she was significantly more active and had a greater stamina than humans, as well as a need to move quite frequently or she would go crazy from inactivity twice as fast than a human would. She wished not for the first time that she'd inherited something from her father's human attributes. Humans had all the best things in genetics. Regardless, she took advantage of the station's size to set a sizeable path that she liked to take daily before beginning her duty.
Wearing a a sleeveless form-hugging top, shorts and running shoes, she was setting a brisk but comfortable jog...for a Drazalyte. To humans she looked more like she was blasting past them. Passersby rarely had time to catch the doctor before she was too far from them to bother greeting. Life on the station promised to be interesting and fairly eventful every day, so she tried to keep herself ready for anything.
When she turned a corner, she was just behind a massive walking jellyfish, and she slid on the floor, “GYAAAAHH!”
Maybe she was thankful for her Drazalyte heritage this once, since her reflexes allowed her to catch herself and she tucked her knees in and leapt high, sailing past the figure, catching a glimpse of it's face, then she was instinctively shifting her skin colour and her specially designed clothes to match the surroundings, effectively turning invisible as she clung to the ceiling, looking down at the jelly being in fright. This was probably one of the more interesting days, from the looks of it.

Syrano was a slow-moving creature on land, even compared to humans. When he felt someone step on his skirts, he would’ve never seen Saranya, even if he hadn’t been distracted by the pain. Stepping on his skirts hurt. It would leave the area flattened and bruised and it would ache for weeks after. On land, he also had the misfortune of being poorly balanced. He had...tiny feet. He stumbled forward, his walking stick no longer able to save him, and fell on his hands and knees. It hurt, even if he did not fall far. He was not built for this sort of impact. He stayed still, letting the pain roll over him, before he reached over for his dropped staff and gripped it tight in front of him. It took him a long time to get back up, his body wobbling. He concealed his legs, but they were unsteady and it was easy to see that. He hold onto the staff with both hands and pushed himself up with all his might. He couldn’t support his own weight with one leg, which is what needed to happen to go from on all fours to standing. Eventually, he was able to right himself, but it was an ordeal. His skirts curled up as he tried to minimize his body area, so he wouldn’t get stepped on again. When he looked around, he saw...nobody. Nothing. He gripped his staff tight, worrying about the human—no, the creature from earlier. Perhaps he was lurking, stalking… and he knew he didn't fall for no reason. He felt his skirts throbbing, someone stepped on him. The bruise was already becoming apparent through his rather translucent skin. On top of that, he didn't hear or see anything run past him. His vision was bad...but not that bad, goodness. “Hello?” He searched the hallway, but saw nothing. Still, his antennae twitched. He...felt something. But what? If only he were in water, he'd know right away...

He's sentient, thought Saranya, and she closed her eyes for a moment, feeling quite the fool for her behaviour. Evidently, she managed to step on him too, based on his reactions. He clearly wasn't a land-based being, and her observations would help her assess what damage she'd unintentionally done to him. Slowly shifting her colours back to her human appearance, and her clothes to their base patterns, she carefully dislodged herself from the ceiling, looking at him.
“H-hi...” said Saranya, “I-I'm so sorry...I uh...heavens, I really didn't see you until it was too late, and it was slippery, I shouldn't have assumed that there'd be no one else, and I run way too fast...I'm...I'm Doctor Saranya Davenport.” She looked him over with a quick visual. “How badly did I hurt you?”

It startled him to see that she came from above, and out of nowhere. If he was foolish, he’d say she turned invisible. The more he watched, the more he realized she did turn invisible, and she was turning visible right before his very eyes. Alarm took him at first, assuming she was...one of them. At the pace of a slug, his skirts moved away from her as she stood by him. He did not want to be stepped on a second time, and his poor throbbing skirt-tail reminded him just how badly that hurt. The way she talked, her mannerisms...she didn’t seem like a devious mastermind. If anything, she was less aware of her surroundings than he was, and he at least had an excuse. She announced herself as a doctor. If he remembered right, that title meant she was part of the medical staff. However, he didn’t recognize her. “You must be one of the new arrivals, Doctor Saranya Davenport?” He looked her over, the slightly translucent lower set of eyes uncovering to look her over in the infrared and ultraviolet wavelengths, as well as the color vision his normal eyes provided. “I am bruised, but as I can stand again, I should be well.” Thankfully, he did not feel any broken bones. He bruised easily and for a long time, which was a bad sign, but he did not reveal that. It would fade eventually. “I am Oto Syrano Nakir vin Toyo. Oto Syrano, if you please.” He nodded his head in imitation of a bow. He couldn’t actually perform the action on land, he’d come off balance again. He did not offer his hand either. Who knows what germs lay on this alien’s skin. “You are not human, correct?”

“Quite right,” said Saranya to his last query, “I am known as a Drazalyte, we can change the colour of our skin to camouflage against any backdrop.”
She looked Oto over again apologetically, taking out her bioscanner and a dermal regenerator, “Yes, I'm new, and obviously, I need to watch where I run. You're clearly an aquatic based lifeform, one that's actually able to move on land with limited capacity. If I may, let me see if I can remedy that bruising; it's the least I can do since I caused it. Again, I'm so terribly sorry. I do wish we'd met under less painful or exciting circumstances.”
She felt absolutely guilty that she caused Oto any pain at all, and she configured her scanner to make sure she didn't accidentally do anything else that might be harmful to his species.

Drazalyte, interesting. There were so many new races to remember, he often confused the names Moclan and Human and Xelayan all together. They all looked and sounded similar enough. However...He thinks he won’t forget ‘Drazalyte.’ How unique… “I must ask you either wear gloves or sanitize your hands first.” He requests with a politeness that befit his former status. “My skin is absorbent. I know not what sort of bacteria Drazalyte have, but I’d rather not risk it.” Regardless, his skirts moved, unfolded and curled and bent about, eventually revealing the spot. Already, it had faded from white to a grey, blue, black color. There were no bones in this part of his body to break, no major organs. It was skin, wet, damp, mucus-y flesh that smelled like saltwater beaches. The ends of his skirts continued their slow, windless flutter.
Her scanner would likely have no clue what to do with the peculiar biology he presented, but would be able to identify the wound as a simple bruise, nothing more or less. Much of the bacteria on his skin are unknown. According to the scanner, they could be infectious. Probably. Hard to tell without hooking up to a computer to run simulations. A regenerator might help, but may not know which tissues to regenerate. He was just too...weird. However, the computer aboard the station would have his medical history stored. There's a set of settings specifically for him. He'd sustained plenty of injuries on the station in the past...
“Really, you shouldn’t feel such guilt.” He began, as she scanned him. “I’m the slowest moving biped on the station, as I understand it. At least, I am slow on land. I couldn't tell you how quick I am in the water." He muses. This girl was...strange. But definitely not part of the Octavious group. She was kind, she was a healer, and most importantly, she didn't know very much about him.
"In the future, just be sure to keep in mind that I may be walking on Deck 02. You're free to run anywhere else, I hardly ever leave this deck." Travel beyond 02 was just too much on him. The farther he went, the more likely he'd suffer a fall or strain and wouldn't be able to get back. Besides, nothing interesting was on the other decks. Yet...

Saranya carefully took note of everything Oto Syrano told her about himself and his species, keeping a sharp tack on the details, since the knowledge meant the difference between life and death for him. “Understood,” said the girl, her accent quite clear now that she was in analyst and research mode. Without looking at him, she keyed in some details on her scanner and pulled up pre-existing records on Oto's race, seeking information on what worked and what didn't. “though you may be in luck. Seems that the station records had something in the works to tend to your species and injuries you or others like you might sustain while you traverse on land.”
She adjusted her regenerator, hovered it over the injured location, and let the device do its work, “Not as quick or efficient as the standard regen process, but it'll take the worst of it off, and accelerates your natural regeneration process...there, all done.” She didn't need to get gloves after all, since she didn't try touching him, partially out of fear that she would get stung. The terran jellyfish were usually toxic and painful to touch. She looked up at Oto, and then back down to the floor, mindful of his willowy legs/tentacles, as she got up to step away.
He had a valid suggestion, since he frequented this deck, perhaps it would be better to use another deck for her runs, Lord knew there were plenty of decks for her to choose from at this point in time. But after reading her bioscanners and learning a bit about Oto's habits, she lit up on an idea, a project that she would like to suggest. “Would you be more comfortable if you had an interconnected set of aquadecks? Sort of like a street path, for aquatic lifeforms like yourself? Or better...” she raised a hand with her index finger pointing up, “...maybe your own personal water bubble? Like a hamster ball!”
She tilted her head to one side, regarding Oto thoughtfully, “If you don't mind me saying so, you look very uncomfortable travelling on dry surfaces, and you're quite literally a fish out of water.”

It didn’t surprise him that she had access to his medical records. Bothered him, maybe, but he had injured himself so many times that it was just natural that someone here had a record of it. Under the regenerator, his skirts turned colors as the tissue healed. What was once a shoe-print became a blurry mess, then white…but before it could change further, she took the regenerator away. Thank goodness. His skirt fluttered back down to the ground. His hands rested on his staff as he leaned on it. Standing was tiring, and so was walking, and he was so far from his tank… Before he could become any more morose though, the doctor...had an idea. Not necessarily one he liked, but it was an idea… “...I am not sure what a ‘hamster’ is.” He repeated the word, his accent showing as he tried to mimic the sound she made, but his r’s were too soft and his h’s were just plain old missing. “I...assume they typically live in spheres. If that’s the case I...would rather not dwell in a sphere, nor would I be pleased if any dramatic changes to the station were done in my name...” He was trying to navigate this delicately. The idea of himself in a ball was...silly. He didn’t like that at all. Not to mention, he was a huge creature compared to humanoids like the doctor before him. Any bigger, he might scare them all away. Say...that’s not a bad idea. “Contrary to what your scanner may say,” He continued on , “I am not a fish. Nor am I a...” He paused, trying to remember the word. He remembered someone remarked to him, his cellular structure somewhat resembled one... “...Jelly, I believe it is. I can survive on land indefinitely, given proper humidity.” Which was true, and the station was not so dry that he was in immediate danger. But he did not remark on his legs. They were hidden under his skirts, because it was horribly lewd to show even so much as an ankle. They were bony, small, and one twisted wrong at all times. Certainly not the legs of a creature built for walking land. He intended to keep them hidden from the doctor. She had no business there. "So...I suppose that is one idea, but maybe not the right one. Your concern is most appreciated, however." It pleased him to know that these new people were, at least thoughtful, even if not entirely pragmatic. It's a step up from the former landlords. Even if the idea wasn't...attractive, he'd keep it in mind.

“I don't mean any insult, Oto Syrano,” said Saranya as she shook her head slowly, “and it won't be a solid or even a restrictive ball, think of it more as a weightless field container that would keep you comfortable, but was also malleable or form-fitting...I know you can walk on land, as I'm seeing right now...”
She stroked her chin thoughtfully, trying to find the most diplomatic way to word it, and also see how best she could be of assistance in this endeavour. Then again, if he really didn't want it, there was little she could do about the matter. “...but are you comfortable travelling as you do now? I-I'm sorry if I'm prying, again, I mean no insult or inconsideration to your culture. It's just my opinion, but you don't seem to be entirely comfortable, and I thought this might help change that for you.”
She offered a small smile, not realizing that she was shifting her skin colour again, because her brain was already working on solutions and the design of the controlled "suit" for the aquatic being, and when her brain worked on overdrive, she tended to forget to maintain her skin colour.
