[ Lt. Kharris | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ] attn: Triage , drei For a long moment Kharris debated what he wanted to do, then he began to type into his hand scanner, cross-referencing their position in the station with the known station map. Much of the station remained uncharted and thus it was difficult to say exactly where the tunnel, or perhaps corridor was a better word, led. His hand scanner was picking up power fluctuations, meaning that there was power either coming from or going to that part of the station, but what it was coming from he could not be sure without further analysis. " Curious," he said again, and without putting too much thought into it made his way into the opening, ducking his head to avoid some overhanging branches and debris. He didn't even bother to look back at the two new recruits, he was in his element and he wasn't about to get distracted by anything. Hell the Captain himself could have come down and Kharris would have ignored him. A few meters into the tunnel Kharris paused and began to work his scanner. " One of you get the hydro-thermal scanner," he called to the recruits, though his gaze did not leave the scanner in his hand. He was picking up a water flow nearby and either a lot of life forms or a big life form, he couldn't tell thanks to the interference.

[ Dr. Saranya Davenport | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station] Attn: Absinthe & drei
The Drazalyte watched Kharris warily as he wandered into the newly discovered corridor with little to no preamble. She would have expressed a little concern and caution if she wasn't so bloody curious and fascinated herself. And after one of Squawk's usual spiels of lore and memories, all of which was certainly useful if she had more time to process and ponder over, she was rushing off to retrieve the requested scanner. “Here, sir,” said Saranya as she returned, handing it to the Moclan. Taking out her own scanner and configuring it, she took a few samples of the air composition, and offered a report. “I'm sure the hydro-thermal would provide better input than mine can, but the liquid composition suggests a near-earth standard equivalent of...fresh water. Some mineral variation is to be expected, but for the most part, it does appear to be non-toxic.” She waved her hand in front of her as she stepped in, just behind Kharris, “Higher levels of condensation and moisture in the air, but also not toxic. I surmise it's safe to proceed...for now.” She would be remiss not to offer some form of caution to the scientists.

[ Lt. Squawk McCall | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ]
"Preliminary sensor readings indicates that this tunnel is not likely to branch off into different directions until we reach another chamber or junction. I believe this water is an optimal temperature for pie crust." Squawk said, his Maytalon face implants augmenting his natural raptor senses. His parliamentarian training honed his echolocation enough to anticipate what lay ahead but not more than the hydro-thermal scanner would. Especially not when whatever it is appears to be at least partially submerged.
"I'll get the hydro-thermal scanner." Squawk said, heading to one of the supply boxes. "I believe there is either a big thing or many small things in there. But I fear it's multiple big things and multiple small things. Some of them are liable to be delicious. I mean dangerous. And, perhaps, historically significant."

[ Lt. Kharris | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ] attn: Triage , drei Activating the hydro-thermal scanner Kharris began to walk forward, moving the scanner about to get the best possible reading. " There is a pipe system," he said thoughtfully. " It looks like it's still full of water and I'm picking up what seems to be a few hundred heat signatures, quite possibly a life form." As he scanned he moved deeper into the corridor. " I'm also detecting some sort of electrical system in the pipes, perhaps a pump system or maybe a life support system of some kind. It seems to be non-functional." He was more speaking aloud now as to not have to tell them later what his readings were and he had set his hand scanner to take notes for him. " There are minor fluctuations in the water pressure, perhaps a natural water flow of some kind in the system." Suddenly Kharris turned and ran back to the entrance of the section, a moment later there was the groaning of strained metal and suddenly one of the walls began to bulge and then burst, water rushing into the corridor. " Fucking hell," Kharris said, once he cleared the area and was now standing in what was rapidly becoming a lagoon. " Well, it looks like the system started back up when I opened the door and the pipes couldn't take it."

[ Lt. Squawk McCall | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ]
"Whatever life form occupies the pipes clearly has terrible housekeeping." Squawk said. "Anybody have some sort of spanner or emergency stopper? Perhaps a holographic Dutch boy?"
Squawk used his medical scanner to make sure the water soaking Lt. Kharris was not going to kill them, especially as it pooled around their feet.
"Well, not that some dingy water would have affected your Moclan constitution, but I believe we won't die from this water."
Squawk tried to scan for things in the water.

[ Dr. Saranya Davenport | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station] Attn: Absinthe & drei
Saranya yelped in surprise when Kharris first turned and ran back. Seeing a Moclan running towards her wasn't a favourite sight to behold. Moclans were big, strong and solid. She had accidentally run into one once just as he was running in her direction. The Drazalyte was certainly worse off than the Moclan from that encounter. But her cry of surprise had been twofold since the pipe bursting caught her in a state as well. She was still unaccustomed to hearing a Moclan cuss so much in a manner akin to humans, but they had a more pressing issue now. Namely the burst pipe and all this water filling up at such a rapid rate. Thanks to her Drazalyte origins, swimming and exploring underwater wasn't an issue to her, but she couldn't say the same for certain for her two companions. “I doubt we have a plug that big,” said Saranya, pointing to the burst pipe, and as Squawk ran his scanners over the water, so did she, but she also sat down in the rising waters, unable to resist the urge. Her uniform and skin below the waters shifted to match the ambient colours until it looked like she was invisible from the waist down, with only the part on the surface remaining visible. “I can detect faint traces of microorganisms. Nothing harmful so far, but there are a few unknowns...maybe I shouldn't sit in the water...” she stood up and waded over to stand near Kharris.

[ Lt. Squawk McCall | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station]
"I think there might be - let's just broadly call them - 'fish' in the water." Squawk said, looking at his scanner. "I mean, what exactly is a fish? I'm not sure if its the flesh-stripping type. I hope the water from the plumbing doesn't affect the ecosystem of the water in this humongous puddle. I know people who live in water hate that sort of thing!"

[ Lt. Kharris | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ] attn: Triage , drei With the scanner in hand, Kharris walked through the puddle with the sort of disregard for the danger of it one could expect of a Moclan, even if he tended not to act like one as much as those around him seemed to think he should. " Well, the water has been mostly stagnating for some time, I am detecting a lot of plant matter in it, likely it was torn up when the pipe burst," he said aloud, again taking notes and informing the two he had with him of his findings. " Looks like there are lifeforms in it, I am detecting quite a variety of microfauna and microflora in the water as well as an ecosystem built off of them." Though his shoes and the lower part of his pants were now soaked Kharris seemed to almost be enjoying this. He had gotten so caught up the bureaucracy and red tape on the station that he had almost forgotten how close they were to the edge of discovery. From where he stood, surrounded by innumerable life forms that had no record on file and thus were brand new discoveries, this was the glory of his job and he relished in it. " Seems like the largest of the fauna is roughly 6 centimeters in length and though it would take a more detailed analysis to confirm it appears they are non-predatory," he went on, crouching near the water and peering into the murky liquid. The water had stirred up the dust that had coated the corridor and left it quite muddy and murky. By now the burst pipe was no longer spraying liquid, instead, it seemed some emergency valve had triggered and there was barely even a trickle coming out of the large gash in the wall. " It looks like a large number of the stations emergency systems are still quite functional, even if it is in disrepair," he noted thoughtfully. It almost seemed like something or someone had been maintaining some areas of the station he had found, keeping the power still functioning and ensuring that the plant matter that he had at first thought was growing out of control, did not damage anything too structurally important. Even the burst pipe was not so bad that it could be considered a true emergency, just a sign of the damage of neglect on the station.

[ Dr. Saranya Davenport | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station] Attn: Absinthe & drei
Clambering up over the tunnel edges that was out of the water, Saranya made clear her unwillingness to chance the fact that they're non-predatory, until more thorough research could be conducted. Although she didn't possess natural suction cups or the ability to stick to surfaces, the Drazalyte was a talented climber and could find places to grip where most people wouldn't even know to look. So she hung almost vertically and stretched down a hand with her scanner to get a direct reading. “Confirmed sir,” said Saranya, “pretty impressive and robust design, if I do say so. And yes, these aquatic lifeforms appear benign enough, but something tells me a deeper foray might uncover more interesting life and of a different nature than the ones we see now. Should make for a rather stimulating report. Oh it might even keep those renovation fellows off your back, don't you think? If there's a natural habitat here with a pre-existing lifeform, they have a right to be preserved and protected, no matter how insignificant. These might have been the most fortuitous find for you.”She smiled at the Moclan and then made her way back to dry ground to stand and make a more detailed report. “I can send this quick like and recommend protective status for this section of the station, what do you say, sir?” She looked up expactantly at him.

[ Lt. Kharris | Overgrown Storage Bay C7 | Restricted Zone | Augustus Station ] attn: Triage , drei " It looks like we're gonna be busy," Kharris said and surprisingly he smiled, this was what he lived for. He moved around the puddle taking readings and doing his preliminary analysis. He had hoped to find something interesting the storage bay, but this was something well beyond what he had expected, this was a totally new species, apparently having developed or at least independently begun to adapt and thrive in the stations abandoned water pipes. it was abundantly clear at this point that the scans alone were going to take hours, let alone trying to wrangle one of the fish like creatures and a fair amount of the water to get a good sample to test the mineral composition. This was going to be a hell of a lot of work and it was thrilling to him. In truth it was why he came to the station, it was why he went to the farthest edge again and again because there was always something new to learn and something new to see. " If one of you would be willing to run to the lab and get the sample kit, the fauna kit to be exact, we can get to work, it's going to be one heck of an interesting day," Kharris said with the same smile. " Oh, and if either of you needs to swap out, I understand if medical needs you or if you need a break."
